Are you dissatisfied with your breast size or shape? Have you ever daydreamed about enhancing your appearance with breast surgery? Dr. David Zabel is a seasoned breast surgeon who has helped countless Delaware women fulfills their personal ideals for a more fitting, comfortable bust contour.
YOUR BREAST SURGERY OPTIONS
Dr. Zabel performs three breast surgeries: breast augmentation (enlargement), breast lift, and breast reduction. During your comprehensive consultation, our team can guide you to the perfect solution to enhance your proportions and boost your self-confidence.
Breast Augmentation — Breast augmentation is our most popular type of breast surgery. Adding a safe saline or silicone implant can increase your bust size and improve shape, as well. This is a great option for women who are self-conscious about their breast size and desire a more curvaceous appearance.
Breast Lift — The breast lift procedure is great for women who want to reverse breast sagging due to age or pregnancy. Breast lift is often done in conjunction with a breast enlargement or reduction to create a more youthful, perkier appearance.
Breast Reduction — Women with large breasts can seek relief from the cumbersome size and resulting discomfort with a breast reduction procedure. Dr. Zabel will help you decide on a new size that works well for your body type. In most cases, breast reduction is covered by insurance plans.
Breast surgery is often done at the same time as another body contouring procedure, such as liposuction or abdominoplasty, for a total body makeover. If you are ready to discuss cosmetic enhancement and your breast surgery options, our Newark plastic surgery team is ready to deliver experienced advice and surgical results you’ll be proud of.
Discover the possibilities of breast enhancement with help from the professionals at Zabel Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. David Zabel will guide you to your perfect solution and deliver compassionate, highly skilled care.
If you are unhappy with your breast size, and have always dreamed about how breast implants might enhance your appearance, breast augmentation from Zabel Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is worth looking into.
Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure that is performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Zabel prefers to use the under-the-muscle placement for most procedures, and there are silicone and saline implants to help you get just the right look.
Are Implants Your Perfect Solution?
In many cases, women wishing to undergo breast augmentation consider their current breast size unbalanced, too small, or disproportionate to their body. Women who have lost a significant amount of weight or who have had children are also good candidates.
Dr. Zabel can help you visualize your augmentation results, but only you can decide if the procedure is right for you. Women choose to have breast enlargement for a variety of reasons:

Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and gravity can take their toll on the female form. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and firmness, and begin to sag. Our experienced Newark breast surgeon and his skilled cosmetic team can perform a personalized breast lift to help you gain a more ideal breast shape and position.
The Facts on Breast Lift
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a cosmetic procedure designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts for a more youthful appearance. Mastopexy can reduce the extra skin and give the breasts their former firmer shape and feel. A breast lift is usually done on an outpatient basis under sedation through general anesthesia. The scars are permanent, but will fade considerably over time. Breast lift results generally last 10-15 years. In some cases, breast implants are inserted in conjunction with a breast lift, which provides the ability to increase breast size in addition to obtaining a shapelier, firmer look.
Are You a Good Breast Lift Candidate?
Ideal candidates are healthy women of at least 18 years of age who are bothered by the current condition of breast tissue. Other candidates include women who have fluctuated in breast size or have developed sagging breasts due to breast-feeding. You may be a candidate for breast lift surgery if you breast skin that has lost it’s elasticity due to past pregnancies, genetics, weight loss, or aging.
The decision to have a breast lift is an important one that requires researching the facts and identifying your personal body goals. Dr. Zabel can help you visualize your breast lift results and show you before and after photos, but only you can decide if the procedure is right for you.
Choosing Your Breast Lift Surgeon
Finding a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon for your breast lift is extremely important and highly recommended to ensure the overall safety and satisfaction of your surgery. Every surgical procedure carries risks and uncertainties; however, an experienced, board-certified surgeon may be better prepared to deal with any complications that arise.

Have you been plagued by chronic neck and back pain for years? Do you hate having to deal with stares in public and having to cover up at the beach? If you’re tired of living a limited lifestyle because your breasts are too large, you’re already on the path to a new, freer you. These are just a few of the reasons more women are choosing life-enhancing breast reduction, or reduction mammaplasty, from Newark’s own trusted plastic surgeon Dr. David Zabel.
About Breast Reductions
Breast reduction is a plastic surgery procedure, usually performed for medical reasons rather than cosmetic purposes, to make breasts smaller, lighter, and firmer. Breast reduction is typically recommended for women who have significant physical ailments, such as back or neck pain, skin irritation, poor posture, numbness, rashes, indentations in the skin from over-taxed bras, excessive sweating, or breathing problems, due to unnaturally large mammary glands. During the procedure, performed under general anesthesia, Dr. Zabel removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin using an anchor-shaped incision that circles the areola and extends downward following the naturally curved breast crease. The nipple and areola are then moved into their new position, and skin from both sides of the breast is reformed around the areola to reshape the breast.
Is Breast Reduction for You?
Women who suffer from the severe physical and psychological impacts of large and heavy breasts may consider this life-enhancing procedure. Symptoms are most problematic when breast size is inordinately disproportionate to the stature — for example, a 5-foot-tall woman with a 36E cup size. In addition to the obvious physical disorders that pendulous breasts cause, they can also lead to significant emotional suffering. Teens with large breasts are often subject to teasing or undue sexual attention. Many women are emotionally scarred by their inability to pursue physical activities or be truly appreciated for their mind over their body. All of these women, if they are in good general health and mature enough to understand the procedural risks and consequences, could consider breast reduction. Since the surgery removes many of the milk ducts leading to the nipples, breast reduction is not recommended for women who intend to breast-feed. Young women are also advised to postpone surgery until the breasts have stopped growing, usually around age 20. Don’t let your breast size be a source of pain or embarrassment any longer. Our skilled Newark, Delaware breast reduction surgeon can fill you in on everything you need to know about this life-changing procedure.
Gynecomastia is a condition of overdevelopment or enlargement of the breast tissue in men or boys. The breasts become larger. They may grow unevenly.
Gynecomastia often happens when a preteen or teenage boy is going through the hormonal changes of puberty. But it can also happen to newborn babies and to men as they age.
Gynecomastia is usually a benign (noncancerous) condition. It may be linked to many different causes of hormone changes. In many cases, the cause isn’t known.
Gynecomastia is often caused by changes in levels of the female hormone (estrogen) and the male hormone (testosterone).
You may have gynecomastia in one or both breasts. It may start as a lump or fatty tissue beneath the nipple, which may be sore. The breasts often get larger unevenly.
The symptoms of gynecomastia may look like other medical conditions or problems. Always see your healthcare provider for a diagnosis.
Your healthcare provider will figure out the best treatment for you based on:
Most cases of gynecomastia happen during puberty. The condition usually gets better on its own without treatment. This may take from 6 months to 2 or 3 years.
If a medicine is causing your breast enlargement, you may need to stop taking the medicine. That can solve the problem. If a disease is causing the condition, the disease will need to be treated.
Hormone therapy may be used to treat gynecomastia. In some cases, surgery may be used to remove the extra tissue.
Men and women who have experienced dramatic weight loss, either through diet and exercise or as a result of bariatric surgery, often have excess amounts of skin around the abdomen. Women can also experience this condition as a result of pregnancy, making the abdomen soft and flabby. An abdominoplasty from Dr. David Zabel can remove excess folds of skin and tighten your abdominal muscles to create a lean, flat, and more well-defined stomach.
Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, can also diminish unsightly stretch marks. Because diet and exercise cannot remove excess skin, abdominoplasty is the perfect solution to tone and refine the abdomen. The effects of a tummy tuck can be long lasting, provided you exercise regularly, eat a sensible diet, and maintain a suitable weight level.
Is Abdominoplasty Your Perfect Choice?
Good candidates include men and women who are in relatively good shape but have a large fat deposit in the abdominal wall or have loose abdominal skin. Abdominoplasty works best for people whose weight is fairly normal and stable. If you intend to lose more weight, you should consider postponing your tummy tuck until you’ve reached your target weight. Please keep in mind that a tummy tuck should not be used as a weight-loss technique.
The Abdominoplasty Technique
During the procedure, Dr. Zabel makes an incision at the bikini line from hip to hip, after which he will remove any excess skin between the pubic area and the belly button. To tighten the contour of the abdomen, Dr. Zabel then takes the skin on the upper part of the abdomen and stretches it downward. The belly button remains in its normal position. Lastly, the incisions are carefully stitched closed and a dressing is applied. If your abdominal fullness and loose skin are confined to the area below the belly button, you may be a candidate for a mini-abdominoplasty, which has a shorter incision and limits the tightening to the lower abdomen. Talk to Dr. Zabel about your best solution to stomach flab.
If you have areas of excess fat that just won’t respond to diet and exercise, liposuction from Dr. David Zabel can be an ideal alternative to improve the contour of your body and help you reach your proportion goals.
Sculpt Your Body
As the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the country, liposuction can actually reduce and reshape the size of a particular area. Liposuction works because it not only removes unwanted fat, it also removes the cells that store fat. Some of the most frequent areas treated by liposuction for both men and women are the cheeks, chin, neck, back of the arms, pectoral areas, abdomen, “love handles,” hips, thighs, inner knee, calves, ankles, and buttocks. Liposuction is not a weight reduction treatment, but a method of reshaping and contouring areas of the body that are disproportionate. Because liposuction produces such immediate and visible results, the procedure has gained popularity among both men and women. If you maintain your current weight and level of exercise, there is no reason to expect that you will regain fat in these troublesome areas.
The Liposuction Methods
Liposuction is a safe procedure with a low complication rate. Dr. Zabel offers his patients two types of liposuction:
Traditional – Traditional liposuction is used for sculpting smaller amounts of fat tissue. In traditional liposuction, fat is removed using a blunt tube with one or more holes near the end. High vacuum is applied to the tube, drawing out the fat cells.
Tumescent – Tumescent liposuction refers to the performance of liposuction using large volumes of a dilute solution of lidocaine, a local anesthetic, in combination with adrenaline, which temporarily shrinks capillaries. This is comfortably performed with various sedation methods.
Your Liposuction Decision
A good candidate for liposuction is a man or woman over the age of 18 who has a normal, healthy weight but would like to get rid of localized areas of fat. It is also important to have realistic expectations about what the procedure can do for you. When deciding whether or not liposuction is the best choice for you, Dr. Zabel and his Newark cosmetic surgery team will make sure you have all the facts so you can make an educated and informed decision.
